Tanjung Benoa
Tanjung Benoa is located 15 kilometers from the international airport and just a steps away from the west gate of an enclave resorts of The Nusa Dua. Like many other beachside destinations in Bali, Tanjung Benoa is used to be a fishing village and an old dock. The development of the peninsula has been very rapidly as most of the shore-side properties are now hotels, resorts and water sports operators. Tanjung Benoa is famous and known as very crowded water sports activities in Bali and even in southeast Asia. Snorkeling and diving including hookah are three popular activities in this area. However, coral reefs is under threats in this area by human activities impacts, rapidly coastal development, and climate change.
Since 2010, Nusa Dua Reef Foundation partnership with local stakeholders, has been working in coral reefs rehabilitation and education program to restore damage coral reefs and introducing sustainable marine tourism practices. Until now, we have deployed 20 sculpture’s artificial reefs and many more concrete artificial reefs with corals transplantation in the damage coral reefs area of Tanjung Benoa.
Currently, partnership with local traditional village of Tanjung Benoa, we initiate to establish a locally marine manage area as a solution to manage the marine resources of this area. The local wisdom of regulation “perarem” will be enforced to ensure sustainable marine resources managed with local Balinese cultural approach.
